This one is a little hazy: Lecture 1!

Procrastination is a wonderful thing. I procrastinate way too much for my own good, and beginning this second post was no exception. To be honest I don't really remember that first lecture as it was the first week and it was all kind of a blur of nerves, excitement, getting lost and constantly being overwhelmed. But lucky for me, I sat next to such a friendly girl, who helped me realise that I was not the only one feeling like a fish out of water.

The lecturer is quite a character which is fantastic because there is nothing worse then having a monotoned stranger speaking to us for an hour. It is clear that he is passionate about the subject, which luckily for me is the case for most of my lecturers! As every introductory lecture begins it was all about the important key things about the course and what we should expect, assessment and expectations of us as journalists.

We discussed the current challenges of Journalism, from technology to the public perception of journos. It was a little daunting as many of the other students had a lot more knowledge and answers about the questions the lecturer was asking, however I have found that even if I did know the answers, I couldn't, and still can't put my hand up and answer them. University has made me about 10 times shyer, it's frustrating.

Anyways the lecture then continued as most do, introducing who we would be taught and tutored by for the following semester, and how to contact them. All useful stuff. Followed by the housekeeping stuff of blackboard, course profiles, lectures, tutorials, followed by my absolute favourite thing... ASSESSMENT. But to my surprise the assessment was not as hard as I thought, blogging would be fun. But as always getting the motivation to do it, on top of all the other assessment in each course is definitely the hard part!

We went through a lot of the basic questions: why we should be journalists, what is journalism, what we get from journalism and what this course would include, a play by play lecture and tutorial course outline. As the lecture concluded, it was no where near as bad as I first imagined it to be. I was relieved, but still a little nervous and unsure about if this is the direction I wanted to go, and if it's what I want to be. Oh well, only time will tell.  Ah, now it was time to try and find my next lecture somewhere in this massive place of university.

Goodbye! :)
