Rain, rain, go away!

So it has been raining for a couple of days now, which is nothing unusual for the SUNSHINE Coast, however today things escalated dramatically. There has been severe weather warnings across all of Sunshine Coast as we embrace for water, water and more water! I have been inside all day doing assignments, oblivious to the fact that outside there is chaos! The sad truth about the matter, is that I found out through Facebook. It was my connection to the outer world. I was shocked to see the images being plastered on, and the many statuses filled with flood-related problems. Why wait for the news to report about it, when I can get immediate and personal coverage whilst socialising at the same time. I have actually discovered that Facebook has become a tool for a lot of things. Just recently there seems to be a new phase of selling your clothes on Facebook. Facebook has become a place for so many things now. Event planning, contacting people, finding out the latest news, gossip to even relieving the problems off one's chest... It has taken the shine off a lot of other organisations. It has taken all of Myspace's fans, it has shut down MSN as it now also offers instant chat, it has even now begun to take away from online stores such as Ebay. You know longer have to sell your things online on websites such as Ebay, but now you can sell it all on facey, easy as 1, 2 , 3.

But anyways back to the floods,  places are being evacuated, peoples homes are being ruined, people are stranded, things are getting pretty serious! Here are just a few glimpses of the state some of the places around Sunshine coast are in:

With up to 250 millimetres of rain in some parts of the Coast, in such a short amount of time, I don't think any of us expected it. As I am writing this I think about all the people who now have damaged homes, are stranded, scared, worried about their loved ones, are worried about travelling home and those who are just plain struggling. We often think about natural disasters as the major ones, cyclones, tornados, tsunamis but they are by far the least of our problems. Water can do so much damage as we have previously seen at Brisbane and it takes a lot to recover from. No one should have to evacuate their place of safety and their home, it is a terrible thing to have to do. They are advising everyone to stay clear from the roads unless it is absolutely essential. But where do they draw the line as essential? Stocking up on food? Picking up children? Trying to get home? Everyone has very different ideas about what essential is, and I'm afraid there might be a lot of people at risk tonight. The rain doesn't seem to be easing up, but the weather forecast predicts it will ease up by tomorrow afternoon. Lets hope so! There have been places set up all over the Sunshine Coast for people who have had to evacuate, are struggling or just need a safe place for the family and pets. As bad as these events are, it is good to see that people have so much support to offer others. Food, beds, entertainment and an ear to listen is all offered at these special places for those who need it. Imagine if we were in a community where everyone just cared for themselves, it would be terrible. Lets hope things improve, and that people aren't too badly affected by the water, or even worse, are put in danger!

Please rain, rain, I mean it when I say GO AWAY.
